Bonspiel Sponsorship

Sponsors can be an important part of a successful bonspiel. Sponsors can help cover bonspiel costs and provide items for the prize table. Strong sponsorship lets a bonspiel keep entry fees low, provide snacks or meals, and have a deep prize table.

So...how does a bonspiel find sponsors? Businesses that are run by curlers are good candidates for sponsorship, but don't ignore other local businesses or national businesses known to be sports minded.  read more »

Curling Sheet Cake

I was at a birthday party a couple of weekends ago, a party with a curling theme.  Since I was in charge of the dessert for around 60 people, I decided to go with a curling theme at the dessert table as well.  A fairly easy dessert is the curling sheet cake.  You need 4 boxes of white or yellow cake mix (or make the cake from scratch), 4 containers of vanilla icing, 1 tube of black icing gel, 1 tube of brown icing gel, 1 tube of red icing, and 1 tube of blue icing.   read more »

Running an Event Kitchen

Not long ago our club hosted a men's playdown event.  The junior curling program was asked if we'd like to run the kitchen, with proceeds going to the junior curling program.  I'd never run a kitchen before, but it sounded like a good idea, so I said yes.  Remember that I said I'd never run a kitchen before?  Well, it turns out no one else involved in the program had either, and there was no documentation left from previous years.

Learning to curl

One of the most difficult aspects to running a successful Little Rock or Junior Curling program is to finding the right balance between fun and structure.  A Junior Curling program needs to be fun for the participants so that they’ll fall in love with the sport and want to continue (and invite their friends!)  However, in order to really enjoy a sport, the curlers need to see that they’re making progress and feel like they’re truly developing skills.  read more »
